Our Trippy Tribe does our best to stay on top of any family friendly events taking place in New York’s Capital Region. With the help of social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter this is now easier than ever. On February 7th, 2019, my birthday, we came across this wonderful blog (here) well worth the read.
We got a taste of U.S History at Crossgates Mall, but there was a twist, everything would be made of Legos! Two things excited me when reading the blog; (1) This was a Lego event and our boys HUGE Lego fans, they absolutely love them. (2) Much to my delight the author of the blog, and the Events Manager for the project Andrew Little is a buddy of mine. Seeing him attached to this project makes me reflect on our days as standout student athletes at our Alma Mater The College of Saint Rose. This was a win-win scenario, not only do I have an opportunity to help support a fellow Golden Knight, we also get to see Lego replicas of some of the United States most historical landmarks.
If you have children, or know any Lego lovers or history buffs this would be a fantastic way to spend a few hours and see these incredible works on display first hand.
According to the blog The Lego Americana Roadshow is making its first Upstate New York appearance from February 9th- 24th. Its free, and open to the public during the Mall’s normal hours of operation ( 10:00am – 9:30 pm Monday through Saturday, and 11:00am- 6:00pm on Sunday).
There are famous historic U.S. landmarks on both the upper and lower levels of the mall. To say they are a sight (site) to see is an understatement. I mean WOW…there’s some serious Grand master level Lego building on display here.
Seeing the different landmarks ranging From The U.S Capitol, The White House, The Statue of Liberty, Liberty Bell and more was only one side of this impressive exhibit. Examining the precision and attention to details carried out in creating these exact replicas is what really blows you away and is nothing short of awe-inspiring.
We’re talking MILLIONS of Lego bricks, and THOUSANDS of hours of dedicated craftsmanship. If you happen to have your our creative juices going there is a designated area to test your hands at some Lego building of your own. The Lego Build and Play Area has an entire array of Lego themed activities that can keep you busy for hours (literally I’m speaking from experience here lol).
Anyone who knows how Our Trippy Tribe rolls knows how important it is for us to incorporate education and learning in all our field trips. Each Historic U.S Landmark is accompanied by a display which details some important keynotes.
This creates a fun, interactive learning opportunity for our entire family. Maps were provided that had questions to be answered about each landmark. Answer all the questions correctly and you can scurry on down to the Lego Store to receive a free Lego Americana collective card pack.
This was a fun day trip for us and we really enjoyed ourselves. Our Trippy Tribe has actually been to the U.S and you can read all about our trip to D.C (here) Seeing some of these replicas after having seen the real thing is surreal in a lot of ways.
As someone who has spent countless hours developing and dedicating my life to a craft I can certainly appreciate the hard work and dedication that these men and women put into creating these wonderful replicas. Also a special shout out to the Mr. Little (aka the Sheriff) and all the sponsors for organizing this amazing event and making it possible for people like you and I to entertain and educate our families.
Our Trippy Tribe had a fantastic time and left our mark! Kid tested, Our Trippy Tribe approved ;-), until next time. Peeeeeeeeeeace!
