Bowling with the sharks?! Our boys have known every species of shark before they even knew their ABC’s! Life as a collection of experiences. Any opportunity we have to travel and enjoy each others presence is a special moment and we jump at it. Hannah had been scouting a few places within a 3-5 hour drive that we could go explore and have a little fun. With baby Synseer in the fold, we made a conscious effort not to plan any long distance trips for awhile and to explore a little closer to home. We decided on Uncle Buck’s Fishbowl & Grill. We piled in the car and hit the road to Bridgeport, Connecticut for our “underwater” bowling adventure!
Our Trippy Tribe has always been interested in the oceans and the creatures that live there. Combine that with the fact that I’ve been dominating Hannah in bowling since our pre-baby days over at Uncle Sam’s in Troy, NY, this was an ideal little trip for our family. In fact, Uncle Sams was one of our first dates, gotta love the irony with this being another “uncle” bowling establishment.
The ride wasn’t that bad, about 3 hours. It rained a bit but the boys were entertained with music, car games and they were just excited to be going on another excursion.
Hannah does the majority of the research into our trips, so usually when I get there I’m just as surprised as the boys at what we see.
First off, this place was really big and the whole establishment was adorned with different aquatic animals. From the mermaid door handles, to the coral reefs, to the great white sharks all over, Uncle Buck’s had it covered.
The boys were all too eager to bowl. We also found upon arrival that the lanes are rented per hour and not by individual game, also Wednesday’s is kids eat FREEEEEEE night!
We grabbed our bowling shoes and headed to lane 5. Even the floor of bowling lanes were florescent and resembled the ocean water.
I’m not exactly sure if the boys could truly appreciate the craftsmanship that went into the design of this place, but it was quite the sight to see.
One thing I do know, they had a blast!
We programmed the lane with bumpers for the boys, chose our bowling balls and got down to business. Truth be told we’re not that great at bowling but we had a good time.
The boys favorite part was lining up the bowling assistant and the ball crashing into the pins. They sure do love crashes, loud noises and destruction, but hey..boys will be boys. We played a few games (which I won, of course :-P) and made our way for some lunch.
The rain put a bit of a damper on the rest of the trip we had planned but we still enjoyed our bowling adventure. Bridgeport is a cool little city, downtown New Haven is a short 15 minute drive away so we went to explore the area a bit.
Allegedly New Haven’s Louis Lunch was the place where the first hamburger was invented! We didn’t partake but was fun to walk around and find more unique places before heading home. Whats your favorite place for a day trip? let us know in the comments below!
